Brian Mbemo will make his enthusiastically anticipated Manchester United debut on Sunday, with the final fixture of the American tour. Mbeumo, who joined United from Brentford on a transfer worth £71 million, missed a match between West Ham and Bournemouth due to lack of preseason conditioning.
However, the Cameroonian forward, who scored 20 Premier League goals in Brentford’s final campaign, will be headed for Reuben Amorim’s team, closing out the US conquest with Everton at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. “He’s going to play, and I’m really excited to see him play and what he can give to our team,” said United manager Amorim.
“You might have looked at the starting lineup and said, ‘I’m not going to see anything today,’ but we were very excited because we knew we could do better.
United are hoping to push summer costs past the £200 million threshold with the acquisition of £700 million striker Benjamin Sesco this summer.
Amorim has repeatedly said he is happy with his existing team, but the only area that needs reinforcement is on attack, allowing United to find the net just 44 times in the Premier League last year. Despite his tireless efforts and commitment, Rasmus Hojlund has found it difficult to score regularly for a fee of £72 million in the last two campaigns after arriving from Atalanta.
The Danish striker, who won Bournemouth 4-1 at Chicago’s Soldiers Field last Wednesday, managed four Premier League strikes in the previous quarter.
When asked about the addition of a potential squad before the relocation deadline, Amorim replied because there is another area under the microscope with a new shot stopper. “Hope is a strong word.
“But we are always looking to improve our team, and we have some characteristics. But again, it depends on the market. It depends on the sales.
“I think you can see other goalkeepers even when you talk about Andre (Onana). Even Tom (Heaton) is another goalkeeper. Altey (Bay Indil) will really do well and Andre will be better like the others who are getting better this year.”
United launched a fresh campaign at their home with Arsenal on August 17th, with centre-back Aiden Heaven, who switched from gunners in January, revealing that Amorim’s team had formed a strong connection during their preseason trip.
“We’re really a tight bunch,” Heaven said. “It gets closer every month and we’re like brothers in the change room. We just get a stronger bond between us.
“We’re working really hard in training to become a better team. We’ve been really good, as we can see in our recent performances and the final game of the season. We’ll focus on the Everton game and have another good performance.
“We look forward to the first game of the season and look forward to showing our fans what we can do. I’m including me. I can’t wait.”
