They took two months, but Manchester United finally signed Brian Mbeumo.

The 25-year-old forward signed a five-year contract, signing with Brentford for a long time and, after increasingly bitterness, a year-round option worth £200,000 a week. United agreed to pay an additional £6 million with the Cameroon International add-on in addition to the initial fee of £65 million.

He became the second major signature in the summer transfer window after Matheus Cunha, and is like a coup for United to land him by beating competition with Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle and Chelsea.

United were willing to have been undoubtedly involved in their success, but the club knew they had to do something given that there would be no European football next season.

There are still 42 days left in the transfer window, but United was operating on another, voluntary deadline. Like many of their rivals, United were keen to make deals early this summer to allow managers as much time as possible on the training pitch.

Cunha concluded very quickly, announcing the contract on June 1st and officially signed on June 12th. The 62.5 million pound capture from the wolf was a statement of intent, and the speed of negotiations benefited him and Amorim.

United’s head coach told football’s director Jason Wilcox and the wider recruiting team he wanted to sign them in time for them to come on the preseason tour. United will fly to the US on Tuesday to play in the Premier League summer series. In other words, Mbeumo just built an airplane.

That sturdy watch is why United ultimately decided to meet Brentford’s demands, which cost more than £700 million. Seeing two bids being rejected, they returned last week in a third to end a weeks-long stalemate.

That means Mbeumo will make his United debut when he plays West Ham in New Jersey on July 27, before the match between Chicago and Atlanta’s Bournemouth and Everton. United will then play Fiorentina at Old Trafford in the final preseason game on August 9th, before launching a Premier League campaign against Arsenal on August 17th.

“As soon as I had the opportunity to join Manchester United, I had to get the opportunity to sign the club of my dreams.

“My mentality is to always be better than yesterday. I know there’s a mindset and personality that will reach another level here. I learn from Reuben Amorim and play with world-class players.

“Everyone has spoken to me about the environment being created here and how exciting the plans for the future are. It’s a massive club with an incredible stadium and great fans, and we’re all really determined to challenge the biggest trophy.”
