The former Premier League player narrowly beat Andriy Shevchenko to win the Cardhu Celebrity Pro-Am before depositing £10,000 in the bank for charity. Some of the most famous names in soccer were involved in the tournament at Trump International Link in Scotland. Gianfranco Zola, Roberto di Matteo and Teddy Shellingham were just a few of the former players participating.

Former Bolton Wanderers and Everton defender Alan Stubbs claimed the honor alongside former Ryder Cup player Jalmo Sanderin. Playing with six handicaps, he managed birdies on the final hole to secure a round of 76.

“I knew I played a lot, but I wasn’t sure if it was enough to score a winning score,” Stubbs reflected after collecting his awards.

“When we were playing the final hall, it was the second and one of the people I was playing with said: “I didn’t want to tell you before your last shot, but you’re flat with Andriy Shevchenko.”

“You know, it’s a great thing, it’s a great event. It’s really well organized and the people who run here are very welcoming. The course is off the charts.

“It was wonderful to see so many faces that they have a familiar face not only in the world of soccer, but also in the world of sports today.

“They’re a great bunch. Everyone’s really well done. I think there’s real friendship and jokes here.

Stubbs has revealed that he will donate money to a charity that supports those affected by the Southport attacks last year.

“I think it would probably be scathing to donate it to the Southport Fund on an anniversary I think it was yesterday,” he added. “It’s a huge cause and money is a very valuable cause. I’m proud to hand over that check.”

Meanwhile, on the Legends tour, the second and third celebrities have raised an additional £10,000 to donate to reasons of preference. Shevchenko will donate £7,500 to the UAF Foundation, which supports refugee students.

Back in third place, Sheringham has pledged to give £2,500 to children’s charity Variety Manchester.

The event at Trump International Link was the predecessor of the PGA Senior Championship held on Thursday.
