Arne Slot saw Joe Gomez return to England from the Liverpool preseason tour after the defender expressed his problem with his Achilles and was seen by a doctor in his hometown
Joe Gomez returned early from Liverpool’s Asia preseason tour after being injured by a small Achilles. The defender expressed discomfort after a training session at Kaitak Stadium on Thursday and is now back in the UK.
Gomez was friendly with AC Milan in Hong Kong on Saturday, and was removed from the match against Yokohama F. Marino in Japan on Wednesday, and is currently undergoing a doctor’s appointment at Merseyside.
Liverpool’s hope is that Gomez’s problem is not serious and that he will not deny him in the long term, Athletic reports. The centre half continues to struggle for fitness. This has been a theme throughout his career. He regained full fitness this summer after missing out on the last three months of last season due to a hamstring injury.
Prior to the conflict this weekend, Arne Slot told Gomez:
“I thought it would be better to rate it in the UK and work on him to get him back on the team. Perhaps for him, he decided to return to the UK in a more ideal situation than being part of a group that goes out every time.

Liverpool has already sold Jarrel Quansah this summer, and the highly rated young defender has moved to Bayer Leverkusen. Ibrahima Conate’s future remains unknown as a year remains in his deal, but he and Virgil van Dyke will become two first-choice defenders. There was a link because Mark Guech thinks he will leave Crystal Palace.
At the fitness front, the Alexis Mac Allister will resume full training after an injury and will be able to play for Liverpool when he plays in Japan next week.
Both Lewis Diaz and Darwin Nunes were removed from the team due to opening friendliness of the Asian tour due to continued uncertainty about their futures. Diaz is firmly present in Radar Bayern Munich, who may return with a new bid, although the initial offer of around £58 million has been turned down.
Meanwhile, Nunes has been inconsistent in three years at Anfield, and following the signature of Hugo Ekichique, Uruguayans are expected to seek new meadows. The immediate problem with him and the club is finding a buyer.
