Hugo Ekitike flew to Hong Kong after completing a £79 million transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt to Liverpool.
Hugo Ekitike joined with his new teammate after flying to Hong Kong for Liverpool’s preseason tour. Ekitike joined after Liverpool agreed to a potential £79 million deal with Eintracht Frankfurt.
He signed a six-year contract with the Reds. The Reds moved quickly to land a French under-21 striker immediately after Frankfurt refused an offer from Newcastle. Ekitike took Florian Wiltz, Jeremy Fripon and Milos Kerquez to the club during a busy transfer window where Liverpool spent £265 million on seven signatures.
This summer, there were plenty of new faces among the Liverpool teams preparing to defend their Premier League title. And how Arne Slot tried to make them feel at home was evident in behind the scenes footage shared by the club on social media.
Ekitique signed Liverpool on Wednesday before heading straight to Hong Kong on Thursday. He met his new teammates during an open training session within the Kaitach Stadium, where the cameras showed interaction.

After shaking hands with many of them, Slot gathered people to introduce Ekitique.
“As you can see, we have a new player, so we hope he is the first Frenchman to score a goal for us,” Slot joked, looking around defender Ibrahima Conate. Other players responded by shouting “Ibou!”, but the camera showed Mohamed Salah, who repeatedly said “Amazing” and laughed.
After chatting with Konate, Cody Gakupo said: “Oh, you’re happy to have another Frenchman!” Keeping Conate happy can be important for Liverpool after a centre-back upset at the beginning of the summer.
In June, he reported that he was “disappointed” by the club’s offer for a new contract. His representatives are seeking higher wages after the Bumper New Deal was handed out to Sarah and Virgil Van Dik.
Conate, whose current trading expired in June 2026, is linked to Real Madrid. Liverpool is well aware of losing Trent Alexander Arnold this summer, but Killian Mbappe, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba have also arrived in Madrid like that.
It seems unlikely that Conate will leave this summer, but Liverpool has been keeping an eye on Crystal Palace centre back Marc Guech. But now, after the striker says he wants to explore his options in the transfer market to Newcastle, all the excitement is around Alexander Isaac.
Liverpool conducted an investigation into Isaac last week in Newcastle before signing Ekitique. Even after a busy summer, they are understood to be able to afford a Swedish star. There will be more deals in the pipeline this summer, as Darwin Nunes, Harvey Elliott and Lewis Diaz could all leave.
