Manchester United’s shiny new £71 million acquisition from Brentford was not featured in the club’s first preseason test in the US with West Ham
Brian Mbemo was behind in preparation compared to his other teammates as Manchester United hadn’t taken up the spot against West Ham.
The £71 million signature from Brentford completed the move a day before the team flew to Chicago for the club’s preseason tour in the US. He was signed after a 0-0 draw against Leeds in Stockholm, Sweden.
Mbeumo recently trained with his new colleagues and traveled to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, but was notably absent from his team sheet. He doesn’t seem to fit perfectly into the match as Brentford is starting pre-season preparations a week after United.

Amorim has already proven to be a tough manager when it comes to fitness, and Mbeumo’s absence follows the trends of similar decisions by the Portuguese. Noussair Mazraoui was another important player, with the defender missing through “knocks.”
New recruit Matheus Cunha, who arrived after a £62.5 million release clause was triggered in the wolves, started with XI’s rather strong XI against West Ham.
Altay Bayinder scored goals amid Andre Onana’s own injuries issues, with Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Ayden Heaven ahead of him. Amado and Patrick Dorg were operating in the role of wingbacks, with Meinu and Ugarte playing the middle part of the centre. Bruno Fernandez, Rasmus Hojlund and Cunha led the line.
United ran out of 2-1 winner thanks to two goals from Fernandez. Jarrod Bowen pulled one back with Hour Hour Mark as Red Devils offered it for victory.
Amorim’s team will face Bournemouth on Wednesday, but Mbeumo will have to wait beyond that to get his first few minutes. Instead, the United boss is hoping that Mbeumo will face Everton on Sunday. His fitness may be a slight concern, but there should be no worries about his mentality.
“As soon as I had the opportunity to join Manchester United, I had to get the opportunity to sign the club of my dreams.
“My mentality is to always be better than yesterday. I know there’s a mindset and personality that will reach another level here. I learn from Reuben Amorim and play with world-class players.
“Everyone has spoken to me about the environment being created here and how exciting the plans for the future are. This is a large club with an incredible stadium and great fans, and we are all really determined to challenge the biggest trophy.”
