Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim makes some major decisions in training at Carrington before heading to the US preseason tour
Manchester United hopes to complete Brian Mbemo’s signature before heading to the US on their pre-season tour. United submitted its third bid to Brentford Forward on Thursday, and are confident in reaching long-term negotiations in the coming days.
Currently, there is a £700 million bid on the Brentford table, consisting of £605 million and £5 million add-ons. United believes it is a take-it-or-lave offer they made after getting frustrated with the bee’s hardball negotiation tactics.
The main reason behind the sudden escalation in bidding is that United hopes Mbemo will take part in a pre-season tour to the US. Reuben Amorim and his players will cross the Atlantic after playing Leeds in Stockholm on Tuesday, and then play Leeds in friendly for their first season.
Matheus Cunha was the only summer signature currently integrated into the team during a training session at Carrington, completing the £62.5 million move early in the window. Diego Leon, the left-back of the 18-year-old Paraguayan, is another new arrival, despite his deal ended in January.

Leon is one of those hoping to catch Amorim’s eye ahead of his trip to the US, where games against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton are awaited. Athletic reports that there has been no decision yet on Leon’s position in Leon’s squad, or whether he will fall under the age of 21, given the competition at left-back from the accumulation of Patrick Dorg, Luke Shaw and Harry.
Meanwhile, there are four other young players in the same position as Leon. United Academy graduates from Bendit Mantato, Ciaracy, Sekoucone and Eri Harrison, and has recently trained with their first team at Carrington, and hopes to win a place on the plane to the US.
19-year-old goalkeeper Harrison has a good chance when Andre Onana is still making a comeback from his injury. Others are currently discussing potential loans for the 2025/26 season with representatives and club staff from various academy players.
Amorim has yet to decide who he wants to protect, who will be better served by leaving at game time. Dan Gore, Ethan Wheatley, Tyler Fredrickson and Toby Collier are keen to clear their academy’s first team path, so they are understood to be able to lend or leave forever in the coming weeks.
United will begin their preseason with Leeds in Stockholm on Saturday, before which the team will travel to the US to participate in the Premier League Summer Series. They will face West Ham of New Jersey on July 27th before a match between Chicago and Atlanta’s Bournemouth and Everton.
United will then play Fiorentina at Old Trafford in the final preseason game on August 9th, before launching a Premier League campaign against Arsenal on August 17th.
