Liverpool is expected to pursue defenders after Hugo Ekitique’s £79 million move from Eintrak Frankfurt is sealed, but their top targets also include other suitors

Liverpool are ready to spend the summer with Mark Guech’s dive if Crystal Palace is willing to play ball and sell Star Defenders for under £50 million.

The Reds will spend nearly £300 million when Hugo Ekitike deals are signed off later this week. The French join Jeremy Fripon, Florian Wiltz and Milos Kerkès through Anfield’s door as the Premier League champions bid to strengthen their teams.

Their interest in Guehi is well documented, and the palace’s negotiating position is not as strong as it once was with the English star within the final year of his contract.

However, rivals’ interest in centre-back services from Tottenham could pose problems for Liverpool.

The Spurs have the cash to spend and, crucially, they can also offer Guehi Champions League football this season.

And while Liverpool may be considered a more attractive option for Nguech given their exploits in the previous Premier League, the Reds are already not going to pay the odds after putting up some serious cash this summer.

Miller Football on Monday outlined that Liverpool will move for Guech if they feel that a palace under £50 million is likely in demand.

However, if Tottenham are willing to meet the above price tags, it would give them a race advantage for Guehi’s signature.

This summer may represent the last chance to sell the palace’s last chance if you refuse to sign an extension. Alternatively, players can choose to run the deal and move on to a free transfer next summer.

Like the central defender, Liverpool could try to sign another attacker if Darwinnes and Lewis Diaz depart before the September 1 transfer deadline.

Nunez is expected to move on, and Liverpool is pleased to sell after Uruguay International’s 2024-25 campaign.

That’s a different story from Diaz. Liverpool wants to stay with him, but the Columbia star is understood to have told the club that he wants to move for a new challenge this summer. Bayern Munich is expected to continue pursuing Diaz after seeing one bid for his services that have already been denied.
