Florian Wiltz missed out on Liverpool’s preseason friendliness against Preston North End, but fans now have the first glimpse into his new teammate and £116 million signature
Florian Wiltz was filmed training for the first time since Liverpool shattered the UK transfer record to sign him. Wirtz, 22, moved to Anfield last month after Liverpool reached a £116 million agreement with Bayer Leverkusen and defeated both Manchester City and Bayern Munich to his signature.
The Reds agree to pay £16 million with their first £100 million and potential add-ons. Wirtz put his pen on paper on a five-year contract, putting a lot of pressure on his shoulder thanks to his price tag.
Fans were hoping to see the playmakers in preseason friendly against Preston North End on Sunday. Unlike other new signatures from Liverpool, however, Giorgi Mamaldaschvili, Jeremy Fripon, Milos Kerkes and Freddie Woodman-Wilz did not feature in a 3-1 victory to manage fitness after playing for Germany last month.
It would be interesting to see where he fits when he finally makes his bow in a red shirt. Liverpool bumped into a Premier League title during Arne Slot’s first season as manager, and it’s the tall orders that improve their starting lineup.
Jurgen Klopp believes Wirtz is enough to infiltrate Slot’s first XI, but what he does is a mystery to him. Asked if the former Leverkusen star could establish himself at Merseyside, Klopp replied.

“He’s an excellent player who can give the club something great. We still don’t see if he’ll make the English champion he rules even better.”
Wirtz was smiling and smiling at the AXA training centre in Liverpool in Kirkby on Tuesday. The 22-year-old already knows Frimon.
Liverpool will be on a preseason tour of Asia next week. Wirtz is expected to board the plane ahead of the collision between AC Milan and Yokohama F. Marino. That’s before the slot squad faces Athletic Bilbao with two fixtures on the same night at Anfield next month.

Wirtz’s competitive debut could face Crystal Palace on Saturday, August 10th at Community Shield. German International shines a spotlight on Klopp after labeling his fees as “indiscretionary.”
“There’s no doubt about that. That’s an insane amount,” admitted the former Reds boss. “We all agree that we’re talking about great players here. I know I said if I pay a player 100 million euros, I’m out.
“But the world continues to change. That’s the market. A part of football always maintains the game itself, but if you want to play at the top level, you can’t train all the players yourself.
