Viktor Gyoker finally became an Arsenal player after his long-awaited transfer was finally confirmed on Saturday evening, but the gunner was long expected to sign another forward instead
Andrea Berta could face backlash behind the scenes of Arsenal if Viktor Gyoker fails to deliver. The 27-year-old Gyokeres was finally confirmed as an Arsenal player on Saturday after the club agreed to pay a total of £63.7 million to Sports Lisbon.
The deal consists of £505 million and £8.7 million add-ons with performance-related add-ons. Arsenal captured the Swedish international, ending a long wait to sign the striker and Berta’s biggest decision since taking over as sports director in March.
Gyokeres’ 97 goals in 102 matches in two seasons in the sport have made him one of Europe’s prolific strikers. However, Gunners’ new No. 14 was not the only candidate
According to The Telegraph, RB Leipzig Hotshot Benjamin Sesco was a favourable target for many people involved in recruiting at Arsenal. Five years younger than Gyoker and gaining more experience in the top five leagues, Sesko was seen as a potentially more upward and exciting option.
Ultimately, Gunner reportedly made Berta talk with representatives of both players, and tactical tricks made each feel like the preferred option. However, the 22-year-old Sesko was considered more expensive, and combined with Gyoker’s desire to join Arsenal, the club chief went with the latter.

Currently, it is claimed that Slovenians are on Newcastle’s radar while they link to Manchester United. If Sesko moves into the Premier League and thrives more than Gyoker, then Berta’s decision could be under internal scrutiny.
However, Arsenal is sure that the former Coventry City star will prove to be the right answer to their striker puzzle. Berta secured Gyoker’s signature and described the deal he brokered as “excellent” in the sport.
“Viktor is an extraordinary talent and consistently demonstrates that he has the qualities and victory mentality needed for a top-level centre forward,” the former Atletico Madrid Transfer chief said in a statement.
“His physicality, intelligence and work ethic make him a perfect fit for our vision. We are confident that Viktor will have a major impact on the pitch and will become an important figure in our dressing room. Welcome, Viktor.”

“We are excited about what Victor brings to our team and look forward to starting to work with him. We welcome Victor and his family to Arsenal.”
