For several seasons since the 2020/21 campaign, the goal was obvious for United in the Premier League, for several seasons, which have not won more than 60 domestic campaigns.
However, last year he suffered the worst top flight campaign in 51 years, earning just 44 in the league, but not a single player scored double digits in the league.
“My plan is very clear and I think it’s about staying for my spot and fighting what happens,” Hodgilund said after United’s friendly victory over Bournemouth, where he opened up the score. ”
He continued: “I’m still very young. I think people sometimes forget that. I’m only 22 people.
“Obviously, not all strikers score 100 goals at age 22, but I’ve learned a lot and I think you can see in my game. I’m starting to develop the basics and get even better.
“Now, it’s just as I sharpen myself, and I’ve been very good before the season so far, and I’m focused on continuing to do that.”
Dane, who only scored four Premier League goals last season, added that he was pleased with the competition for United’s striker spot, believing he would sharpen both him and the entire team.
“Competition is fine for me,” he emphasized. “It makes me sharp. I’m ready. I feel sharp, so I welcome everything coming. I think the competition is good, and it only sharpens the team.”
He admitted that he has had a lack of support ahead of time since joining the club. Joshua Zilky was brought in last season, but struggled and the pair scored just seven league goals between them.
“It was obviously (Anthony) Marshall was there too when I came,” explained Hodglund.
“He had a lot of injuries so obviously he had to take a lot of game time.
“But obviously, it could have been done with some help, especially at first, in terms of sharing a little bit of the game. But I feel like I’m getting a lot of mature and ready for what’s coming.”
Hojlund and Amorim: “Really happy”
United head coach Reuben Amorim supported Hodglund in his preseason performance, stressing that he was “really happy” with the striker’s contributions, but admitted he didn’t know what would happen in the transfer market.
“Every time we have to kick the ball, we kick the ball when we’re more pressed. His ability to hold the defender and connect to support helps us play better.

“I’m really happy with Rasmus,” Amorim said. “We don’t know what will happen until the end of the market. The important thing is that the strikers here are really working really well, they’re improving, they’re helping the team, and that’s the most important thing.
“The important thing is that Rasmus scores the goal. He’s really connected with the team. He’s improving. Again, we don’t know what will happen until the market closes.”
