Manchester United only made two major signings this summer, and Alan Shearer believes they are not challenging for Europe with their current team
Alan Shearer claims Manchester United is “four top players away from the top six challenges,” despite the Red Devils spending more than £130 million on the likes of Matteus Cunya and Brian Mbeumo.
Reuben Amorim hosted last year’s horror campaign as United finished 15th in the Premier League. Significant improvements are required after summer training pitch.
The club has been keen to bolster misfiring attacks alongside Mbeumo and Cunha this summer, with Diego Leon added, but the United team still has some issues and Shearer claims there are many issues to address before considering qualifying for the Europa League.
Given a struggle like Rasmus Hojlund, United have not yet added No 9. Despite Amorim playing the 3-4-3 formation, the new wingback didn’t come in.
Shearer told Betfair:

“They are still in business because they need top-class centre forwards that will work well with Cunha and Mbuemo, and that depends on the quality they bring. But even just Cunha and Mbuemo, they’re sure to improve last season.
Amorim claims he will be happy if he starts a season with Arsenal with his current team in mid-August. However, concerns remained around United, eventually coming from a Champions League spot to 24 points and 42 points off the off-Champions Liverpool.
Shearer also quickly pointed out that one of the leading recruits, Mbeumo, will leave the midseason to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations. That would put more pressure on United’s depths.
He said: “Mbuemo will probably go to Afcon, but you know when you sign these players, you have to ride it and accept it. He will be a big player for Man United, so he and Man United will hurt him because he is not there, but the other clubs will have the same problem.”
United reportedly made a loan offer for EMI Martinez to be rejected. Aston Villa also revealed that Ollie Watkins is not on sale. Earlier in the summer, Liam Dellup, who was on the club’s radar, chose to travel to Chelsea before switching to Manchester.
