Manchester United reportedly could sanction a blockbuster swap deal to beat Newcastle to Benjamin Sesco. The Red Devils are said to have an advantage in the race, signing forwards from RB Leipzig.
The new No. 9 completes a drastic overhaul of Reuben Amorim’s front 3. Sesko is United’s priority after missing Viktor Gyoker and Liam Delap. However, if Alexander Isaac succeeds in his desire to leave St. James Park this summer, Newcastle could also pursue Slovenian International. United reportedly may offer Rasmus Hoilund to Leipzig as a make-up class to close the deal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Hojlund is the signature of Leipzig’s “dream.” That knowledge reportedly could encourage United to seek swap deals involving Norway and Sesco, which Leipzig is said to be worth more than £60 million.
United signed Hojlund to many fanfares two years ago with a £72 million switch from Atalanta. However, the 22-year-old struggled with consistency, scoring only four Premier League goals last season.
He seemed unsure about the second half of the campaign. His struggle, coupled with Joshua Zilky’s overwhelming introduction to Premier League football, convinced United to sign a new centre forward this summer.
SWAP transactions can benefit all parties, particularly as they are well documented pressures with profit and sustainability regulations. The minority owner, Ineos has been making controversial cuts to club spending as tight budgets.
With Matthews Cuña and Brian Mbemo already spent more than £130 million this summer, United may need to sanction the deviation before signing any more money. Therefore, swap transactions will display the price tag. Meanwhile, in return, Leipzig will receive a “dream” target and a direct replacement for Sesco.
United reportedly expects to be active for the remaining months of the transfer period. Not only is a new striker wanted, but goalkeepers and midfielders also managed to arrive at Old Trafford in the coming weeks.
Amorim recently said of the people signing to United: “They want to come here. All they can do is they want players who have already proven (by themselves). Sometimes there are players with a lot of potential, but every player that comes has to come. You need to know the players.
