Introducing to both Milan and Newcastle in the second half, Douman became one of the youngest players to appear on the first team, showing a flash of talent that Arsenal coaching staff is very excited about.
Starlet was immediately fouled by Jollington in a clash with Newcastle on Sunday, but his physicality didn’t stop him.
Shortly afterwards, he unleashed a toxic strike against Newcastle goalkeeper John Raddy. And just two minutes later, he made a great surge in the box, causing Jollington to beat him and admit the penalty.
“The environment around him, his family, the people at Club & Academy is very helpful as he has real opportunities and real presence when he plays for the first team, as he placed him in this position early in his journey.”
That sentiment is widely shared in London Colny, and it is said that staff will appreciate him among the most talented players who have passed through the academy in recent years.
Last season, he became the youngest player to appear in Premier League 2, making his debut at just 14 years old.
Dowman’s game is built on outstanding technical attributes, including strict control, balance, and creepy ability to shift direction with pace. His stop-start dribbling and body manipulation make him a nightmare for a young-level defender, and his ball-strike ability gives him a real final product.
As with incredible talent, the question now is how well it translates into senior football.
According to former Arsenal Wingerpeli Groves who watched Dowman Live, the youth have everything they need to succeed.
“What he does is attract players — stop, start, slow down, speed up. It’s something that came naturally within him. What can stop him is injuries and attitudes.”
Numbers are as eye-catching as performance. He rarely plays as a central striker, but has 20 goals and 10 assists in just 25 under 18 games.
This return is worth noting for 18-year-olds. Needless to say, people who won’t turn 16 until December.
He has also already made 14 appearances for the England Under-17 and has scored four goals on the international stage.
Dowman is part of Arsenal’s senior preseason team this summer and is the youngest member of the group, with further integration expected next year.
While we don’t see exactly where he fits into Mikel Arteta’s plans, his versatility and intelligence suggest a player who can develop into either a broad attacker or a senior midfielder.
“Very happy” with a young gun
Dowman was not the only young man to first appear in gunners at the senior level in Singapore.
Fellow Marli Salmon, 15, was also involved, but he also performed 18-year-old Josh Nichols, who made his first team debut at last season’s Carabao Cup.
“When someone makes you feel very comfortable and you’re confident right away, you can go and do it.
“At least it gives you the best chance, and you have to have the qualities that this child has to oppose such opposition.”
Arsenal had a total of six academy alumni on the Singapore pitch – Douman, Nichols, Salmon, Bukayosaka, Rice Nelson and Miles Lewis Skelly.

The Arsenal boss added: “It’s very good, there’s a lot of work in the academy of coaches, and there are involved people, and it’s a moment where you give them the opportunity and reward them.
“They certainly took a chance today in difficult situations against a very large team. It’s incredible how they can play at that level at age 15.”
But what about Douman, especially? Do you see him play a role this season?
“We don’t know for all young children,” explained Arteta. “Finally, they are always inside and around the team, they are used to the dynamics and demands.
“And especially, raising the physical level, as the requirements needed to be implemented and impacted at levels are a very high physical standard.
“They’re getting there and it gives them a good platform and they’ll have to get it.”
