bEing Ambidextrous is an unusual ability to induce neuroscience and sport curiosity. This is defined as the ability to use both hands or feet with equal dexterity, and although it is very rare to find it in pure form, practice and effort may have enabled the development of ambidextrous skills. Oousmane Dembele, a soccer player, is one of the most famous examples in the world of sports. Players were able to use both feet with similar effects, making them an unpredictable and versatile player. Behind this ability is both brain factors and discipline in training.

The reasons behind being ambidextrous

According to Univision’s specialized blog, from a neurological perspective, ambidextrous people have a more balanced brain development as they use both hemispheres more synchronously in a more synchronized way. Most people have a dominant hemisphere, but ambidextrous people tend to exhibit less specialization, which gives them significant brain plasticity. This flexibility allows you to better adapt and develop skills on both sides of your body.

To this, you need to add a training role. Many sportsmen and women like Dembele are not born with perfect sex, but they build it through constant practice. Repeated technical gestures, such as kicking and controlling the ball with both feet, enhance coordination and increase the dexterity of the non-dominant limb. In this way, what may be the initial limitation becomes a strategic advantage. However, experts emphasize that absolute ambidexterity is extremely rare and it is more common to talk about the degree of mixed ability to be perfected through work and discipline.

In sports, that’s an advantage

In sports, the ability to master both sides of the body gives it a unique versatility. For example, a soccer player can shoot, dribble, and cross either leg, making it more difficult for the defender and opening up a wider range of resources on the field. In Dembele’s case, his ambidextrous ability made him a particularly valuable player, and this year he won the Barondoor.

This type of skill reflects not only the brain with excellent plasticity, but also the athlete’s perseverance in training both sides of the body. Being ambidextrous is rare in the general population, but it can be reinforced.
