Auckland’s uncertainty affects Mexican national team and media
The incident occurred in downtown Auckland. This is a region chosen because of its high crime rate. According to journalist Gibran Araige, the media outlet covering Mexico was also a victim of the robbery.
In the case of the media outlet, individuals were not valuable inside, but it was reported that individuals had broken a window in their vehicle. In both cases, they were quick and non-violent robbers, but issued warnings about security conditions around the national team.
When is Mexico vs Japan?
Despite this incident, El Tori continues to prepare for a friendly match with Japan scheduled for 20:00 PM on Friday, September 6th (Mexico City time). The match is part of the FIFA date window and marks the beginning of Javier Aguirre’s rehearsal for the 2026 World Cup.
It will then be the second meeting of these games against South Korea at Geodis Park in Nashville, Tennessee, at 7pm on Tuesday, September 9th (Mexico City time).
While the start of the US tour was not ideal, Mexican teams continue to focus on sports issues, with their priorities being to consolidate groups ahead of future international challenges and minimise distractions generated by external circumstances.
