Liverpool’s busy summer continued on Tuesday evening, with the Reds announce their latest departure within two weeks of their first match of the new league season
Tyler Morton has completed a £15 million move from Liverpool to Lyon. England U21 International departs the Reds through the club’s academy.
Morton, 22, has been fishing this summer to escape in search of first-team football, who has won two successful loan spells for Blackburn Rovers and Hull in recent seasons. The Reds were able to leave him because of the amount of senior options available to Alexis Mac Alistair, Wataru End, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominique Schbosly block his path.
They also have other young stars in James McConnell and Luca Stephenson, but teenager Trey Nyoni has been impressed with the preseason game and is now pushing to be considered a full-time member of the first team. Stefan Bajcetic has also returned from the Lone Spells of RB Salzburg and Las Palmas.
Liverpool has a 20% sell-on clause on the contract. If you sell to a League 1 club and the add-on is triggered, the transaction will rise to £15 million. Meanwhile, the fee itself helps increase Reds’ funds for further transfers.
Summer target Alexander Isaac is a Newcastle player for now, and Liverpool has seen his bid knock back. But if it were Benjamin Sesco, Newcastle’s land, they could still return to striker.

Morton’s Liverpool exit is removing success on the under-21 side of England at the European Championships in June. He played in all but one of the Young Lions games and won the Jonathan Row final.
However, he was barely featured under Arne Slot last season, but shoulder surgery limited his opportunity. The midfielder played against PSV Eindhoven in Europe and played several domestic cup games, but did not win Premier League minutes.
Lyon had a busy summer, but more players went out than they could take part. Two of their departure players moved to the Premier League.
In contrast, Liverpool has spent more than £200 million since winning the Premier League in May. Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike also completed the Anfield Switches and joined the big bucks move.
The Reds have also been cashed in by many first-teams, and their total total has risen above £100 million, even before the Morton exit. Most of this came from Louis Diaz’s move to Bayern Munich, while others include Trent Alexander Arnold and Kaoimhin Kelleher.
The Arne Slot champions will launch their Premier League campaign at their Bournemouth home, with the match being held on August 15th. Lyon’s Ligue 1 campaign travels to the lens for an opening fixture the same weekend.
