MONTREAL (AP) — Toronto’s Luka Gavran made three saves and Montreal goaltender Thomas Gillier was untested Thursday night in a scoreless draw in the league’s first game since the FIFA World Cup was suspended.
Toronto (3-6-6) ended a three-game losing streak but remains winless in its last nine games at 0-4-5.
Gavran kept his first clean sheet of the season in his 15th start. He made one save in the first half, but it came in the first minute.
Gillier earned his third shutout win in 15 starts for Montreal (4-8-3).
Montreal captain Samuel Piette played in his 251st game in all competitions, tying him with Patrick LeDuc for fourth place in club history.
Toronto improved to 1-4-1 on the road, while Monreal went 3-2-2 at home.
Toronto leads the series 17-14-7, including 10-9-2 at Stade Sapt.
Prior to the game, Toronto announced Thursday that it has signed 18-year-old Toronto FC II and Toronto Academy defender Richard Chukwu to a homegrown contract through the 2029-30 season with a club option for the 2030-31 season.
