Lamine Yamal’s home was targeted in an attempted robbery on Tuesday night, just hours after Spain’s victory over France, according to reports. The disturbing incident is said to have happened just after Yamal helped his country reach the World Cup finals, where they faced either England or Argentina. Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Polo were on target as Spain crushed Les Bleus.
Hours later, Yamal’s home in Barcelona was the scene of an attempted robbery, according to Spain’s La Vanguardia newspaper. It is claimed that the players’ private security guard detected two hooded individuals attempting to gain access to the premises and activated emergency protocols. Shortly after, the would-be thieves reportedly fled the scene.
Catalan police are now believed to be investigating the attempted robbery, with the Criminal Investigation Department examining security footage showing a hooded figure.
The property, previously owned by Gerard Pique and Shakira, has been in the spotlight again since Yamal showed off the mansion in a “House Tour” video just before his World Cup trip.
Yamal is not the only Barcelona player to have been targeted by robbers in recent months. In February, the homes of Pau Kubalsi and João Garcia were robbed in a spate of crimes targeting wealthy people in the area.
In Kvarshi’s case, an intruder reportedly broke into his home while he was training and stole his luxury watch and other items.
Garcia was in Saudi Arabia to take part in the Spanish Super Cup when he was robbed of jewelery and cash after setting off an alarm at the goalkeeper’s home.
Meanwhile, Yamal will be hoping to put the attempted robbery aside as he prepares to represent his country in the World Cup finals.
He was seen limping after the win over France, but manager Luis de la Fuente was quick to downplay the possibility of an injury.
After the final whistle, he said: “There’s nothing I know about Lamine. I’ve just talked to the doctors. Pedro Polo seems overloaded, but we’ll see tomorrow.”
