Arsenal have no intention of resting on their laurels after winning their first Premier League title in more than 20 years last season and have already begun strengthening manager Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Arsenal have turned Piero Hincapie’s loan deal into a permanent deal, triggering options and add-ons worth €40m (about £34.5m) to keep the defender in action.
Hincapie joined the Gunners on loan from Bayer Leverkusen in September last year. However, the deal that makes the Ecuadorian international a permanent member of Mikel Arteta’s squad has long been seen as a formality, with the 24-year-old impressing in north London last season. He made 25 appearances in the Premier League, helping Arsenal win their first domestic title since 2004.
Arsenal’s option to sign Hincapie permanently has not deterred rumors that other players could try to sign the versatile defender, with Real Madrid also said to be keen on signing him.
However, Hincapie committed his future to Arsenal and signed a contract until 2031.
The Gunners have confirmed Hincapie’s move will become official on July 1st. The defender is currently representing Ecuador at the World Cup.
Hincapie was expected to make a permanent move to Arsenal, but it looks like he won’t be the only player to weigh in in the coming weeks.
Morgan Rodgers has emerged as a top target for the Premier League champions, but it would be expensive to lure the attacking midfielder away from Aston Villa.
The England star is currently playing at the World Cup and is seen as a player who can improve in the left attacking area. Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola is also a player of interest for Arsenal, who could potentially sell Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard.
