Arsenal will face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday. Legendary former Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is desperate to see his former team finally win Europe’s biggest prize
Manager Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal “deserve” to win the Champions League on Saturday and hopes his former club can regain the “missing” parts of their glorious history.
Wenger, who has been in charge in north London for 22 years and is now FIFA’s global head of development, says he wants Mikel Arteta to bring the trophy back to the Emirates.
Arsenal reached the final in 2006 under Wenger, but were reduced to 10 men following the sacking of manager Jens Lehmann and lost to Frank Rijkaard’s Barcelona. Sol Campbell put the Gunners ahead in Paris, before a cameo from Henrik Larsson turned the tide for the Catalans, with Samuel Eto’o and Julian Belletti scoring in the second half.
Now, the Frenchman knows it won’t be easy for Mikel Arteta’s Premier League champions to face Luis Enrique’s side.

“I want this trophy to go to the Emirates because it doesn’t belong to them,” Wenger told UEFA. “We’ve done it before – we were 13 minutes away from winning – so you’ll want it to happen again this time.
“I’ve always said we’ll work to make sure the club is in a good position to continue moving forward. Overall, I believe this is a stage we can seize.”
“I still believe it’s a 50-50 chance of winning the final and if I had to bet, I would bet on Arsenal over Paris Saint-Germain.
“I think the club deserves it, this season deserves it, the stability of the team deserves it. When I came to Arsenal, the club had very little Champions League history.
“Then we qualified 20 years in a row and the pinnacle of that history is being champion.
“I think Arsenal have been slowly building their history and are now able to win championships. I also feel that the time has come for Arsenal to consistently dominate the Premier League.”
