Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was spotted wearing a torn shirt after an apparent altercation in the stands during a basketball game. The 58-year-old was playing in the EuroLeague basketball final between Olympiakos and Real Madrid on Sunday night.

Mr Marinakis has been the owner of the Greek club since 2010. While Olympiakos defeated their Spanish opponents 92-85, the club’s owner was also said to have taken part in the altercation in the stands.

Video footage of Marinakis with his shirt torn and screaming at individuals while separated by a fence and security guards has been shared on social media. It is unclear how his shirt was torn.

Greek news outlet Ekatimerini reported that Olympiakos and the forest chief were at loggerheads with Grigoris Domitriadis, the nephew of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. In footage shared on social media, Marinakis and Dmitriadis do not make contact with each other.

The cause of the altercation is unknown. Nottingham Forest were asked to comment on the incident, but a spokesperson for Marinakis declined to comment.

On the basketball court, Olympiakos won their fourth Euroleague crown. The team advanced to the finals by defeating Fernbahçe in the previous round.

Marinakis has seen Olympiakos’ soccer team win the league 11 times during his time as owner. The club also enjoyed success in Europe, winning the European Conference League trophy in 2024.

He entered English football after buying Nottingham Forest in 2017. He led the club to promotion to the Premier League through the 2022 playoffs.

After surviving in the top flight, Forest went on to shine in their bid to qualify for European football in 2025. Vitor Pereira’s side reached the semi-finals of the Europa League, but lost to eventual champions Aston Villa.

In a difficult Premier League season, Forest went through four permanent managers while the team battled relegation. Pereira succeeded Sean Dyche in February and survived.

Forest ended their season with a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth at the City Ground on Sunday. The club finished in 16th place, five points above the relegation zone.
