End of an era at Barcelona?: 5 stars who appear to have completed their cycle at the club

FAfter further disappointment in the UEFA Champions League, Barcelona are beginning to outline a major restructuring of their roster as they look ahead to the 2026/27 season.

The club’s leadership and manager Hansi Flick’s coaching staff are analyzing the roster overhaul, which includes at least five players who appear to have completed their cycles at the club.

5 candidates to leave the Roses at the end of the season

According to social media, press and fans, a number of departures are expected, whether for reasons of age, performance, physical problems or financial reasons, with one of the most obvious cases being Robert Lewandowski.

Lewis’ contract runs until June 2026, but there has been no concrete move to renew him with the club. His goalscoring ability and track record speak for themselves, but his age and recent physical issues have led to questions about his future at the club.

Another possibility is Andreas Christensen. His performances have been solid at times, but a recent knee injury and contract situation have further complicated his future at the club. His contract with Barcelona expires this summer, but Mundo Deportivo say the centre-back has rejected the club’s first offer to renew his contract.

Marc Casado is also on this list. This is because he has not been able to establish himself as a solid option in Hansi Flick’s line-up, and his lack of playing time has meant that his chances of playing have diminished, leaving him as another player who could potentially leave.

Another player is Frenkie de Jong. Although he is an important player from a footballing perspective, his high salary is reportedly incompatible with the club’s financial situation, which could force the club to sell him in order to ease their finances and make room for a new contract.

Finally, there’s Marcus Rashford. His loan move from Manchester United left a mixed impression. Although he brought speed and unpredictability, his performances were not convincing enough for Barcelona to exercise their buyout option, which was set at 30 million euros.

In summary, these potential decisions reflect Barcelona’s strategy focused on generational change and financial sustainability, aimed at building a more competitive team for the future.
