Ángel Guillermo Hoyos is starting to establish himself as an important figure in Inter Miami’s current lineup. Hoyos, who took over as interim coach following the departure of Javier Mascherano, has not only made an immediate impact on the field, but is likely to remain in the head coaching position for several more months.
Hoyos’ debut match couldn’t have been better. They won 3-2 against the Colorado Rapids, highlighted by Lionel Messi’s two goals. And given the schedule, which includes the World Cup, it is not far off that the Argentine’s coaching term may be extended.
Hoyos to stay at Inter Miami until World Cup
According to Ole USA, club leaders led by David Beckham plan to keep the former sporting director in his role until at least June or July, and are reportedly considering extending his term further.
The ‘Herons’ aim to remain competitive by 2026, marking the year with the FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19.
During this period, Major League Soccer, like most leagues, will pause and resume between the semifinals and finals of the tournament.
But amidst recent change and uncertainty, Inter Miami is betting on stability. And in that direction, Hoyos is increasingly emerging as a solid option, backed by results and, above all, the support of the club.
The manager, who previously worked within the club’s sporting organization, was initially appointed as interim manager, but did not rule out continuing in the role if the board decides. “Whatever they want, I will serve them,” the Argentine coach said at his first press conference.
The early exit from the 2026 CONCACAF Champions League was a huge blow, but the team remains hopeful with another win over Colorado under Hoyos’ leadership.
They are currently the reigning MLS Cup champions, with a record of four wins, three draws and one loss in the eight MLS games played this season.
Now, Inter Miami will play another MLS match against Real Salt Lake at America First Field on Wednesday the 22nd, before closing out April at the New Stadium on Saturday the 25th when they face New England looking for their first home win.
