aLamine Yamal is only 18 years old, but he has already established himself as one of Barcelona’s most important players thanks to his attacking prowess and goal-scoring ability. However, the Dutch football legend has issued a strong warning regarding the young forward.
Ruud Gullit expressed concern about the huge workload the youngster has accumulated and sounded the alarm within the Rose camp about the possibility of future injuries.
Warning to roses about Yamal
Yamal suffered a serious groin problem earlier this season, forcing him to miss several games and undergo radiofrequency treatment to avoid surgery.
Despite this, Lamine appeared in 44 games for Barcelona, scoring 23 goals and providing 18 assists while leading the team’s attack. That’s why Frit expressed concern that this “addiction” was potentially the root of a larger problem.
“The only thing is that the team relies on him a lot. And he is a very young player. They use him all the time, so I’m really worried that he will get injured,” he told AS (via Barça Blaugranes).
Moreover, age is not a deciding factor for Gullit, as he has seen other stars as young as Lamine suffer from physical problems due to the overload of club and international matches. Furthermore, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Yamal is also expected to play a leading role in the Spanish national team, the former AC Milan player said:
“And they say, ‘Yes, but he’s young.’ But you saw it in Pedri and Gabi. They have to play in the World Cup. Then he played in the World Cup with the youngsters and he got injured there. And coming back from injury is tough. So I hope it doesn’t happen again. So I love his job.”
Beyond his concerns, the former player has made it clear that there is no doubting Yamal’s talent, but his message highlights the need to better manage his playing time to prevent a promising career from being derailed by physical issues.
Following their recent Champions League defeat to Atltico Madrid, Barra are now focused on La Liga, where they currently trail Real Madrid by nine points, as they aim for a second successive title.
