Carragher was also at the center of the incident before kick-off. As he twirled around the ground to reach his spot in the Sky Sports studio, he was subjected to a series of vicious remarks, including one from a particularly vocal fan. They can be heard shouting, “Fuck you, Carla, you son of a bitch,” and then “Fuck you, motherfucker.”
Ms Carragher responded to the abuse and after a brief exchange, she chose to ignore the rest of the comments and continued on her way.
In the end, Carragher made the final decision, winning over Van Dijk. Commenting on Liverpool’s win, Carragher said: “This is an absolutely huge result for Liverpool considering yesterday’s result against Chelsea.
“When that board went up for 11 minutes, from Liverpool’s point of view I would have rocked anyone and scored. Everton were a little more threatening because of their goalkeeping situation. Liverpool were a small team towards the end of that game and I was afraid of set pieces.”
“If you look at how Liverpool won this game, two of the club’s absolute legends did it. They won’t be here for long, Salah and probably Van Dijk in 12 months.
“Two absolute greats. Salah did it again, as always, against Liverpool’s biggest rivals. You can always count on him, whether it’s against Everton or Man United.”
Liverpool’s victory over Everton saw the Reds move into fifth place in the Premier League table and qualify for the final Champions League spot. They return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Crystal Palace at Anfield.
Arne Slott’s side then face a pivotal game in their quest to return to the top table of European football, with a showdown with fierce rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford just under two weeks away.
