Real Madrid faces a trophyless season as collapse deepens

Real Madrid’s Champions League dream is over. Real Madrid lost to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and although it was not a comeback, it was a worrying result for a club where expectations are always high.

A season without trophies?

Everything is still on the table. The Spanish giants’ campaign has been rocky from the start and has only become more complicated under manager Rubalo Arbeloa, who replaced Xabi Alonso amid harsh criticism. Now, Real Madrid risk finishing without a silver medal.

After losing to Barcelona in the Supercopa and a shock exit to Albacete in the Copa del Rey, all hopes were pinned on La Liga and the Champions League. That scenario has now collapsed.

Madrid trails Barcelona by nine points in the La Liga standings. A comeback is not impossible, but they will have to rely on a win and Barcelona dropping points.

Otherwise, it will be a second successive trophy-less season, an unacceptable result for one of Europe’s most successful clubs.

The big question now is: Are Real Madrid in crisis? And with or without Arbeloa, what big changes will happen next at Santiago Bernab?
