Manchester United defender Harry Maguire launched an X-rated abuse at a Premier League official after he was sent off during a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in March. The England international already received a one-match ban for his first red card and has been handed a new ban for his abusive behavior in which he shoved Cherries forward Evanilsson in the penalty area.
Maguire was accused by the FA of inappropriate behavior towards the fourth referee and will receive an additional one-match ban. This means he will miss this Saturday night’s game against Chelsea and will also face a £30,000 fine.
The FA said in a statement: “Harry Maguire has been charged with a red card after being sent off in the 78th minute of Manchester United’s Premier League match against Bournemouth on March 20th.
“The defender is alleged to have behaved inappropriately and used abusive and insulting words and actions towards the fourth official following his dismissal. Harry Maguire has until April 2 to respond.”
Maguire missed Man United’s defeat to Leeds United on Monday night and will also miss this weekend’s game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The FA added in a statement: “The independent regulatory panel has imposed a one-match suspension and a £30,000 fine on Manchester United FC’s Harry Maguire.”
“The defender was charged after being sent off in the 78th minute of the Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth on Friday, March 20. He is accused of behaving inappropriately and using abusive and derogatory language and behavior towards the fourth official following Harry Maguire’s sacking.”
“The defense attorney later admitted the charges. After a hearing, the regulatory commission imposed sanctions on the defense attorney.”
In the report, fourth official Donoghue claimed: “In the 78th minute of the match, referee Stuart Attwell sent off Manchester United’s No. 5 Harry Maguire. After the VAR check was completed, Maguire, who was leaving the field, approached me and shouted, “You’re kidding, you’re kidding.” The matter has been reported to the Football Association for further consideration. ”
Michael Carrick is already without fellow defender Lisandro Martinez after being shown a straight red card in Monday night’s defeat to Leeds United. The interim head coach described the incident as one of the “worst decisions” he had ever seen, and the club is considering appealing the red card decision.
It is understood they do not believe the incident was forced or intentional.
