Follow the latest updates from South Florida as Javier Mascherano steps down as Inter Miami coach:
Javier Mascherano has received his fair share of criticism since the beginning of his coaching career. His tenure as manager of Argentina’s national youth team was disappointing to say the least, but he quickly found success at Inter Miami.
With the help of Lionel Messi, Mascherano led Inter Miami to their first-ever MLS Cup victory in 2025, doing so in his first year as manager. There were doubts as to how far the team could go in the playoffs, especially due to the poor performance of the defensive unit. However, Mascherano showed his magical touch in the postseason, with Matteo Silvetti and Taddeo Allende playing big roles.
Mascherano seemed to have figured things out ahead of the 2026 MLS season, but Inter Miami are not completely in tune with all of their new players at the moment. Given their 3-3-1 record, Mascherano and his players know they should play better. Perhaps that is the reason for Mascherano’s resignation, but we won’t know until the full story is known.
