Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai clashed with a fan after the 4-0 win over Manchester City, but tried to bury his hatchet ahead of the match against Paris Saint-Germain
Dominik Szoboszlai has apologized to Liverpool fans after being furious at their reaction to the recent Manchester City assault. On 4 April, Liverpool suffered a heavy 4–0 defeat to City and were eliminated from the FA Cup, but Szoboszlai’s actions after the match caused a backlash among fans.
8,000 Liverpool fans gathered at the Etihad Stadium to witness Erling Haaland’s hat-trick in an absolutely dispiriting performance from the away side. Mo Salah’s missed penalty added to the misery of Reds supporters who made their emotions clear after the full-time whistle.
Those who remained could be heard booing Arne Slott’s team, much to Szoboszlai’s frustration. The midfielder was seen waving his arms and shrugging his shoulders to admonish the away fans before being pulled away by Federico Chiesa.
His actions were poorly received on social media, with some labeling him “arrogant” for apparently believing he was ignoring criticism. However, at a press conference ahead of the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain, Szoboszlai tried to clear the air.

When asked if he had a message for his fans, he answered, “To be clear, this was a misunderstanding between me and my fans. I didn’t mean it in a bad way.” “I know what the fans mean to this club.
“As players, we do our best for them and for us. I’m sorry if there’s a misunderstanding, but just like them, they may feel that I don’t feel as good as they do. I’m with them, and we’re with them, and hopefully they’re with us too.”
Liverpool beat Fulham 2-0 in front of their home fans on Saturday and will now need to overturn a 2-0 deficit in the first leg against PSG in Paris. Supporters protested plans to increase ticket prices for the game against Fulham, and Szoboszlai called on fans to do the same on Tuesday night.

“Tomorrow at Anfield will have a big impact,” he said. “We’ve seen it many times this season and last season. It’s not just the eleven or the subs, it’s going to be the whole stadium and we know what it feels like to be at LFC with the fans at Anfield. We don’t need any more motivation.”
The Hungarian international promised another game after an indifferent Liverpool gave PSG little punch in the first leg with a five-man back line.
“I can talk about tactics, but not publicly, but it will definitely be a different game. We will do different things and we saw what they did in the first game, so we will manage and we will have to give our all and give it our all,” he said.
“If we can say we tried our best and we didn’t do well, we can still hold our chin up and say we tried. But we all know what we have to do and I’m sure we have a big chance tomorrow.”
