uPresident Donald Trump attended Matt Life Stadium and witnessed the Club World Cup final between Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, with the English side winning the championship with a 3-0 victory. The president was one of those who were at the awards ceremony to watch the match from the VIP box, present medals and become part of the celebration.
In addition to presenting the trophy to the London Club and taking part in the celebration, he confessed to someone he believes to be the greatest football player of all time. In an interview with DZN, the official Club World Cup channel, the US President recalls the years he watched football in the 1970s and 1980s. When asked who his favorite footballer was, Trump did not hesitate to respond.

Who is Donald Trump’s greatest footballer?
To the reporter’s explicit question, the US president answered in his own style: “When I was young, they brought in a player named Pere who played for the Cosmos. After recalling the Brazilian era in the old North American leagues, Trump told his anecdotes about why he “leaned more towards tradition.”
“It was a long time ago. I was young and came to see Pele. He was amazing. He was an inspiration with my friend Steve Ross at Warner Communications.” Pele concluded his professional soccer career in the United States. From 1975 to 1980 he played for the New York Cosmos, where he played 64 official matches and scored 37 goals. His biggest career played with Santos of Brazil, the team he loved, from 1956 to 1974. There he won six Serie A (now Brasileirao) titles and two Coparibatadore and InterContinental Cups.
Donald Trump compared Pere to one of America’s great sportsmen
For Donald Trump, Pele’s arrival in New York was extremely important. Not only did the New York Cosmos go on the radar of fans, it was a huge boost for American football. He compared his contributions to one of the greatest sports stars in his country. “He’s a great player and one of the best players I’ve ever seen, and it’s like saying he’s on Babe Ruth’s level, and Pele was great,” he concluded.
The next edition of the Club World Cup is still a mystery. Everything shows that the next host of the FIFA tournament will be Qatar in 2029. However, countries like Brazil and Spain are waiting for a response after they have officially submitted their bids.
