Neymar is taking every opportunity to remain in the race for Carlo Ancelotti’s final World Cup squad.
Although Neymar was left out of Brazil’s most recent call-up, he made the most of his final FIFA spell by training hard and returning to Santos FC in top form. His efforts are already paying off, as he recently recorded an assist in the team’s latest game.
Against Remo, the bottom side of the Brasileiros, Neymar led Santos to an important victory that helped them lift them out of the relegation zone. He took the lead just before half-time with a superb lob pass over the defense and a goal for Tasiano.
Chants to provoke Neymar
During the match, Remo’s fans also targeted the Brazilian star with chants to provoke him.
Supporters sang “You’re not going to the World Cup” to Neymar, a moment of mockery from the fans but likely had little effect given the hostile atmosphere Neymar has faced throughout his career.
But the reality is clear. Fans know exactly what could hurt him the most. There is a very real possibility that Neymar will miss out on the World Cup, which could be his last chance to play on the sport’s biggest stage.
