Lamine Yamal has become a football star since joining Barcelona, thanks to his attacking talent, dribbling, speed, goalscoring and extraordinary vision for a young player. This has led to him being frequently compared to other players such as club icon Lionel Messi.
But the young forward’s father, Mounir Nasraoui, insists his son has yet to reach his full potential and there is no need to compare him to anyone.
Ramin’s father protects his son from comparisons
Yamal has been in the news ever since he made his debut at the age of 15 in a 4-0 win against Betis on April 29, 2023. He broke records and won awards such as the Copa Trophy, the Golden Boy Award, and the Laureus Rising Star Award, which are presented to the world’s best under-23 players at the 2024 Ballon d’Or Gala, and continued to establish himself in the football world, gaining more playing time for the club and establishing himself as an important player indispensable to the Roses.
Internationally, he has also distinguished himself with the senior Spanish national team, where he has already made important appearances and established himself as one of the leading figures in the sport.
His ability, vision and knack for creating chances in one-on-one situations, not to mention his goals, led to him being compared to other football legends in history.
Nevertheless, his father mentioned two major aspects regarding his son and his potential in a recent Instagram Live. The first is related to the fact that, according to Nasrawi, the forward has not yet reached his peak.
“Lamine hasn’t shown even 20% of his soccer skills. That’s what his father says,” he revealed (@elchiringuitotv).
Mounir then used the opportunity to put an end to the debate over comparisons with other stars, clarifying that the focus was on his personal growth and not on their similarities.
“Here’s another lie. I have never compared my son to anyone. Do you know who I would compare him to? With myself,” he said, emphasizing his message. “Lamine doesn’t have to compare himself to anyone, because no one compares himself to him,” Nasrawi said, asserting that he respects all players, regardless of era or career path.
Meanwhile, Lamine has played in 40 games this season, scoring 21 goals and providing 16 assists, and his father also emphasized the fruits of his daily efforts. According to him, he does push-ups as soon as he wakes up in the morning, explaining that there are no excuses or days where he loses motivation, but rather, it is his amazing consistency that has led to his success.
Lamine and Barcelona are currently preparing to face Atltico Madrid at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium in La Liga on April 4, ahead of the Champions League quarter-final first leg at Spotify Camp Nou on April 8.
