FBaseball is a dangerous sport. Throughout history, there have been many serious injuries that have shocked fans around the world. A shocking image that is difficult to erase from people’s memories. On Wednesday, the victim was Galatasaray player Noah Lang, who almost lost a finger on the fence at Anfield.
Images of a cut on his thumb and blood gushing from his hand quickly went viral. The Turkish player writhed in pain on the grass as his assistants tried to help him. In the end, he had to be taken away on a stretcher and undergo surgery.
The footage reminded him of other dire situations experienced on the pitch. There is the famous case of German player Ewald Lienen, who suffered a “blow” to the thigh during a Bundesliga match between Werder Bremen and Arminia in 1981. An opponent’s stud caused a 25cm gash on his thigh, leaving the tissue open.
Similar to Leinen’s injury, there was also an injury suffered by Mexican player Giovani dos Santos in the 2019 game between USA and Chivas. “Polo” Briseno’s stud pierced the Mexican’s thigh, surprising everyone involved in Liga MX. It’s an injury more typical of war than a soccer game.
Slovakian defender Martin Skrtle also suffered a severe skin injury in a 2014 Premier League game against Arsenal. Giroud’s boot hit the red defender’s head, puncturing his scalp and requiring staples to stop the alarming bleeding.
Even more famous is the historic footage of Terry Butcher starring in the 1989 Sweden-England match. The collision left him with a large gash on his forehead, which bled profusely despite bandages, leaving England’s white shirt completely covered in blood.
In England, Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta suffered a severe cut to his ear after colliding with an opposing goalkeeper. He ended up with serious injuries, requiring 25 stitches to his face.
Fortunately, Noah Lang’s injury against Liverpool was just a scare and will not seriously affect his sporting career.
