Joan Laporta has won the Barcelona presidential election and will remain in charge of the Spanish team despite recent criticism.
On the first official day of this new cycle of activity, the president not only outlined the club’s sporting and economic roadmap, but also touched on one of the most sensitive issues for fans: the organizational relationship with Lionel Messi.
Laporta thanks Messi for re-election
During the campaign, opposition forces have repeatedly used the Argentine star’s name in the past to question Laporta’s management. However, the president praised the current Inter Miami players for maintaining their distance throughout the process.
I want to repair the relationship, it’s not that bad. I’m thankful he didn’t take a stand.
Laporta acknowledged and thanked the “10” for remaining silent in the face of attempts by other candidates, including Victor Font, to gain public support.
Laporta’s reaction to Xavi’s criticism
Laporta also took the opportunity to respond to the recent comments of Xavi Hernández, who in an interview pointed out that he was directly responsible for Messi’s departure. The president acknowledged it was a personal blow, but remained steadfast in his position.
“On a personal level, this interview hurt me, but the reaction was overwhelming. It didn’t hurt us, I think it actually worked out well for us. To sum up, I would say we were talking to a happy Kuhl while others were going to an angry Kuhl,” he said.
Laporta is happy with the win but knows there is still much work to be done, with his priority being Flick’s rehabilitation and restoring the club’s financial stability.
