Kylian Mbappe made a strong impression at Paris Saint-Germain before leaving for Real Madrid, but the Parisian club also left a mark on the French heart.
The 2018 World Cup winner left the club amicably, but he did not shy away from expressing his love and deep respect for the club.
Mbapp emphasizes ties with PSG
Kylian leaves PSG as the club’s all-time top scorer with 256 goals and 110 assists in 308 games, having won 15 trophies, including six Ligue 1 titles and four French Cups.
These records cemented his place as one of the club’s key players. He joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 after seven seasons with PSG, but his time at the Parisian club still lingers.
“Kiki” spoke to a group of children with disabilities on the beIN SPORTS beUNITED program and answered curious questions from young journalists. But one of them stood out, or rather, his reaction to it.
When asked about leaving PSG, Mbapp replied sincerely:
“I spent seven years at PSG. It was an honor. I don’t think I could say or show it enough, but I’ve always been aware of my roots and what a great club PSG is. I’ve always said that Paris is the biggest club in France and one of the best in the world. I went to the biggest club in the world (Real Madrid). I always said that if I were to leave PSG, this would be the only club,” Mbapp said (via Mundo Deportivo).
The French forward added: “If I didn’t go to Real Madrid, I would have stayed at PSG for the rest of my life. I dreamed of playing for this club and I’m very happy. I still watch PSG games, I have friends in the team and they’re playing very well at the moment.”
Meanwhile, since joining Real Madrid, he has maintained his scoring output with 82 goals and 11 assists in 92 games. After recovering from a problem with his left knee, he is expected to be available for the Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, but it is expected that he will make a cautious return so as not to put too much stress on himself.
