aAs military tensions rise in the Middle East over the US attack on Iran, the conflict between the two countries has spread to the soccer world. The exchange of statements put the Asian national team’s participation in the World Cup in jeopardy.

Authorities suspend flights after drone attack near Dubai airport

During the week, Iranian Sports Minister Ahmad Doyanmari announced at a press conference that the Iranian team would give up their tickets because there was no guarantee of safety to set foot on American soil.

US President Donald Trump then hit back, saying that although Iran’s squad is welcome to participate in the World Cup despite the ongoing war, “I really don’t think it’s appropriate for them to be there for their own lives and safety.”

In response to President Trump’s comments, he said Iran “cannot exclude anyone” from participating in the men’s World Cup to be held in the United States, raising questions about whether Iran is actually withdrawing from the tournament or considering participating.

The Iranian Football Federation also suggested that the U.S. team should probably be excluded after the president suggested the host country could not guarantee the safety of Iranian players.

Iran World Cup Scenario

Iran was placed in Group G, where they faced Belgium, New Zealand and Egypt. The three matches scheduled in the first phase will be played in the United States. Los Angeles and Seattle are the cities hosting the games.

Agenda that shakes Iran

Arizona is affected by the uncertainty surrounding Iran’s selection, as Tucson’s Kino Sports Complex was selected by Asian teams as their base of operations and campsite during the tournament. The presence of Iranians means a certain amount of economic income, which in turn means the creation of local jobs. But considering the situation, everything is at a standstill.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Iranian federation are scheduled to attend FIFA’s annual general meeting. The event will be held in Vancouver on April 30th.
