SFootball legends like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo continue to thrill us with their plays, goals and emotions. But so are the young, talented players who have recently emerged, one of whom has already surpassed both of them in scoring statistics.
On Saturday, March 7, Lamine Yamal made history by scoring the winning goal for Hansi Flick’s side in the match against Barcelona’s Athletic Club at San Mams. That’s why his teammates are pushing him to work harder.
Why shouldn’t Yamal be “satisfied”?
Pedri Gonzlez, who showed special chemistry with Lamine on the field and became a great partner and assist provider, entered the game after half-time. Fortunately for Yamal and Bala, he provided the 18-year-old with a superb assist and the number 10 scored his first and only goal of the match in the 68th minute.
After the game, his teammates did not hesitate to praise Lamine’s power and scoring ability.
“The goal would not have happened without Fermund’s movement, and he put it into the top corner. I told Lamine that an assist would be very welcome. He is very young. He should not be satisfied. He should try harder,” Pedri explained in a conversation with Vara Blaugranes.
The truth is that Yamal is only 18 years old and has scored 19 goals and provided 15 assists in 36 games played for Rose this season. However, with this goal, the youngster reached 50 competitive goals in his sporting career, much faster than Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese star was 21 years old when he reached this milestone during his spells with Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United and the Portuguese national team. Meanwhile, the Argentina icon was only 20 years old when he scored his 50th goal for Rose and the Argentina national team.
Lamine has played 23 games for Spain, scoring six goals and providing 12 assists, while for Barcelona he has scored 44 goals and provided 15 assists in 144 games.
Barcelona’s next match will be against Newcastle United in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 at St James’ Park. They will then face Sevilla FC on March 15th at the Spotify Camp Nou in La Liga.
