IIt is well known that wherever Lionel Messi goes, thousands of fans follow him. The Argentine’s arrival in MLS not only caught the attention of fans around the world who turn on their TVs to watch Inter Miami games, but also Americans, who would pay any amount to see the former Barcelona player play on the field of any stadium.

Inter Miami’s recent away win over DC United, in which Messi scored the winning goal and the home team broke stadium attendance records that were shared around the world, explains the Messi phenomenon that has arisen in the United States.

DC United breaks attendance record thanks to Leo Messi

The game against DC United was played at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, with a crowd of over 72,026. This record number shows that Lionel Messi is capable of making fans all over the world want to go see him play.

The last time DC United had this many fans in the stadium was when they won the MLS Cup in 1997. There were 57,000 spectators at that time, which shows that Messi is capable of drawing a bigger crowd than the title decider.

Although the home team did not win the match, the fans were not upset at all as they got to see Messi and the Inter Miami star live. This has implications throughout MLS and shows that Beckham’s team made no mistake in the deal.

Messi’s amazing goal against DC United

More than 70,000 people attended the stadium in Baltimore not only to watch Messi play, but also to watch him score a stunning goal that quickly decided the game.

When Inter Miami were winning 2-0, Messi received a great pass on the left side and when the goalkeeper went to press, the Argentine delicately lifted the ball over him and scored the real goal, meaning the match was 2-0.

At 38 years old, Messi is still active in MLS and has achieved impressive records. As the World Cup draws closer and closer, Leo shows that he is more realistic than ever and always wants to achieve further goals.
