Philippe Coutinho terminates contract with Vasco da Gama
Former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, 33, has decided to sever ties with his current club and heart, Vasco da Gama, due to mental health problems, according to the player himself.
Coutinho attracted the attention of the entire world with his excellent performance with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, but Barcelona made an attractive offer of $120 million plus a variable rate of $40, but the Brazilian was too good to ignore, and despite the German manager’s wishes to stay, he ultimately signed a contract with the Catalan club in January 2018.
Coutinho was signed to a five-and-a-half-year contract, but his first spell at the Catalan club was marked by very poor performances, and he was gradually relegated to the bench, never displaying the brilliance that he had shown in the Premier League.
Due to his poor form, Barcelona loaned him to Bayern Munich in 2019. The Brazilian scored two goals and provided one assist in the Champions League quarter-finals against Barcelona, contributing to Germany’s historic 8-2 win. The Munich club will defeat PSG in this competition.
After a short stay in Germany, the player returned to Barcelona. His second season was no better than his first, and at the beginning of 2022 he was loaned to Premier League side Aston Villa, who bought him for 20 million euros. After a short spell with the English club, he was loaned to Qatar before being bought by the Brazilian club in 2024.
