aAfter hours of contradictory testimonies and tons of opinions about the sequence of events between Gianluca Prestiani and Vincius Jr., the Argentine player surprisingly defended himself on social media.
Prestiani’s stance with support from Benfica
The Benfica forward used the X account to respond to accusations from Real Madrid players and the general public. With the support of Benfica as an organization, Prestiani defended his position and expressed his views, denying any false accusations or possible guilt.
Citing a video posted by Benfica’s official account, Gianluca Prestiani said: “If they insist so strongly that I made racist comments against Vincius Junior, why didn’t anyone react? It’s not right to criticize someone for something so serious, especially Especially when it’s not true. And everyone points at me just because I covered my mouth with my shirt, when everyone knows the player is talking with his mouth covered. Please stop making things up,” he wrote on his profile, citing a video posted by Benfica’s official account.
Minutes before the young Argentine’s post, Benfica released a video from another angle showing that none of the Real Madrid players may have heard anything, making it virtually impossible that Kylian Mbapp heard Prestiani say “mono” (monkey) to Vincius Junior five times, as Mbapp claimed in his post-match statement after the Champions League match.
