Barcelona and Fermin have reached an agreement to renew the player’s contract until 2031. The two parties began negotiations several weeks ago and have now reached an agreement to extend the player’s contract with the club by two years. Negotiations were short-lived as an agreement was quickly reached.
The club has improved the midfielder’s financial situation in view of his excellent performances this season. The club’s sporting management recognized that his salary needed to be increased to reward his good work and at the same time prevent the hypothetical scenario of the player leaving in the face of interest from other clubs.
Let’s not forget that Chelsea tried to sign the player in last summer’s transfer window. They had also made an unofficial offer of 40 million euros to the Blaugrana club, but they were unwilling to accept it as Deco was clearly not good enough, given the player’s level so far this season. What remains unchanged is the termination fee, which remains at 500 million euros. This is the third time in two-and-a-half years that the club has improved Fermin’s contract, taking into account the player’s progress, who after a season with Linares became an international player for the Spanish national team as well as a key player in Flick’s team.
The first renewal took place in August 2023, and the contract was signed until 2027. In October 2024, he signed a new contract with the club until 2029. He is currently under contract for another two years. He is expected to sign a new contract this week.
