The Colombian national team achieved an impressive performance at the World Cup and is one of the favorites to advance to the final stage of the competition, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada in 2026.
James Rodriguez and his teammates already know where they will train and rest at home between games at the 2026 World Cup, which the United States was eliminated from.
Colombia will be headquartered in Guadalajara, Mexico.
FIFA has announced that the Colombian national team will be based in the Mexican city of Guadalajara. Guadalajara is one of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup, where James Rodriguez’s side will play two of their three group games.
The decision was made after a technical visit by the Colombian Football Federation and the team’s coaching staff led by coach Nestor Lorenzo, who evaluated several cities in Mexico. The capital of Jalisco received the highest marks for sports infrastructure, air connectivity and urban logistics. Due to all these factors, the Colombian team decided to make Guadalajara their training base.
Colombia is in Group K and will play in three cities:
June 17th vs. Uzbekistan. Location: Mexico City
June 23 vs. Intercontinental Playoff Winner. Location: Guadalajara
June 27th match against Portugal. Location: Miami
Why did the Colombian national team choose Guadalajara?
In addition to being one of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup, Guadalajara is one of the most important cities in Mexico, so it has excellent infrastructure. We also have Chivas and Atlas, two very popular clubs in the country, and one of the points that convinced the team was the Atlas AGA Academy.
It is a complex completed in September 2023, featuring six professional courts, a clubhouse, a sports science and medicine center, and has been internationally recognized in the Architizer A+Awards 2025, an awards program focused on promoting and recognizing the best architecture and spaces of the year.
Guadalajara will also provide important logistical advantages for the Colombian national team at the World Cup thanks to Guadalajara International Airport, which has direct flights to multiple cities in Mexico and the United States, including air connections to Mexico City and direct flights to Miami.
