According to various sources, Sky Sports is scheduled to be discontinued at the end of this month. This ends a restructuring process that began in 2024 after Televisa took over Sky completely, and will now cease operations.
What will happen to Sky Sports broadcasts?
Sky Sports is known for broadcasting high-profile sporting events and international leagues such as Bundesliga, La Liga and Formula 1.
Broadcasting will continue, but it will be Izzy who will take over these sporting events in order to continue the offer for subscribers and not lose the benefits already gained by Sky Sports.
With this move, Izzi continues to significantly expand its broadcasting services. Since October last year, it has acquired the rights to events such as F1, and will also participate in the European league.
However, this also excludes any impact on fans who watch Sky Sports on a satellite or cable package, as a possible solution for subscribers has been announced.
According to reports, the Sky Sports Mexico concept will remain with Izzi and Sky, with selected events available and exclusive events maintained as before.
What happened to Sky Sports in Mexico?
After its acquisition by Televisa in 2024, it planned to integrate its satellite signals with cable TV company Izzi, which is part of Mexico’s Televisa.
The merger was effectively complete until last year, when it resorted to cost cutting. As a result, a number of Sky Sports employees were informed of their redundancy in early 2026.
It is reported that several people within the company have not been paid, and this situation has been going on for the past four months. There were also mass layoffs within Sky Sports.
