Former River Plate and Monterrey coach Martin Demichelis, along with his family, experienced a moment of distress, but fortunately it did not turn into a fatal incident on what appeared to be a normal and quiet day.
Uruguayan media reported that the former player and coach nearly drowned on a Uruguayan beach on December 31, but was rescued along with his family by several onlookers.
Journalists on the program “A la tarde” (American TV) told what happened, saying that Demichelis’ family was on a New Year’s holiday on the beach of Laguna Escondida in José Ignacio, near Punta del Este.

A Uruguayan journalist detailed the critical moments experienced by Martín Demichelis and his family.
“They had decided to swim into the sea, but the moment came when they couldn’t get out of the water,” TV presenter Karina Mazzoco explained as footage of the dramatic rescue was shown on the screen.
The same media reports that swimming is prohibited at this beach. Similarly, Oliver Quiroz Salazar, another journalist on the program, revealed a message he received before accessing the images, in which both the former soccer player, his eldest son Bastian, and his niece Camila were identified.
“We saved Demichelis and his entire family from drowning in an unsupervised area.”
