After the voting, Inter Miami received a hat-trick of awards as Lionel Messi received the most votes and was named the best player in MLS.
Additionally, his compatriot and coach, Javier Mascherano, was also honored, being named MLS Coach of the Year. And to the surprise and delight of David Beckham’s team, Inter Miami was named club of the match.
Meanwhile, it was Racing midfielder Santiago Sosa who received the most votes in Argentina (also the team with the most votes). Estudiantes de la Plata’s Eduardo Domguez was named the best coach.
Leo was not named America’s Player of the Year as Uruguay’s Giorgian de Arrascueta received the most votes. The current Flamengo player received 67.8% of the votes, ahead of Messi who received 39% of the votes.
De Arrascaeta played 69 games for the club this year, scoring 28 goals and providing 19 assists as they won the Copa Libertadores and Brasilao. Furthermore, he was one of the most important players in the national team’s bid to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Messi, Mascherano and Inter Miami are preparing for the 2026 season, where they will defend their title, complete the construction of their new stadium, Miami Freedom Park, and do without Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.
