“FC Metz announces with deep sadness that Tahiris dos Santos, the club’s youth player from Mont-Saint-Martin, was injured in a fire in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, on New Year’s Eve. The 19-year-old, who suffered severe burns, was airlifted to Germany and is currently receiving treatment,” the club said in an official statement.
Her agent, Christophe Houteau, made the first assessment of Tahiris dos Santos’ health. “In Tahiris’ case, I couldn’t speak and she couldn’t express her feelings. I talked to her parents all day. They kept me informed about her condition.”
Uteau also addressed the possibility that the young player will undergo surgery, saying: “He may need surgery tonight. Maybe he will need a transplant. It’s too early to know more about what will happen.”
The Mets player was accompanied by his girlfriend and a friend, according to a statement from his agent. “When he regained consciousness, the first thing he asked the doctors was, ‘Where are my friends?’ His girlfriend was also seriously injured and is in the hospital.”
“We are working with medical authorities to arrange for him to be transported to Mercy Hospital near his home,” Mets said in an official statement.
