Roberto Carlos has been released from the hospital after undergoing heart surgery. “Thank you to the entire medical team for their care, care and treatment during this period,” the Real Madrid and Brazil legend wrote on social media, alongside a photo of himself posing with the doctors who treated him before being discharged from hospital.
Medical tests revealed that Roberto Carlos had a heart problem, and he underwent surgery on December 30th at a hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. After the surgery, the former soccer player said, “I underwent pre-planned preventive medical procedures with my medical team. The procedure was successful and I am well. I have not had a heart attack. I am recovering well and am confident in myself. I am back to full fitness and look forward to resuming my professional and personal activities soon.”

The initial reason for his visit to the hospital had nothing to do with his heart. As part of a routine medical checkup, Roberto Carlos underwent tests after a blood clot was detected in one of his legs. After performing an MRI and supplementary tests, doctors discovered that a significant portion of his heart was not functioning properly and decided on immediate surgery.
The surgery was originally scheduled to last about 40 minutes, but lasted almost three hours because complications arose during the surgery to implant a catheter to correct a heart problem. The athlete will continue his recovery outside the hospital.
