Vin Diesel reveals Cristiano Ronaldo is appearing in FastX: Part 2

IIn a move that has sparked new talk about what could be the final chapter of the Fast and Furious series, series star and producer Vin Diesel has publicly revealed that international soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo is being cast for the role in the next film.

Fans of both the passionate film and the global sports icon are currently debating what Ronaldo’s presence means for the series, even though details about the film are being kept strictly secret.

Diesel, who plays Dominic Toretto throughout the series, shared a photo with Ronaldo on his official Instagram account.

Alongside the image, Diesel released a statement that read, “Everyone asked, will he be in the Fast mythos…I have to say he’s real. We wrote the role for him…”, confirming not only his interest in the idea, but also that the role was developed specifically with Ronaldo in mind.

An Instagram post of the two giving a thumbs up to the camera quickly became the focus of speculation.

Universal Pictures has yet to make an official casting announcement, but the actor’s notes suggest that the 40-year-old forward, currently one of the most famous athletes on the planet with Al Nasr, could step into the Hollywood realm at a key moment in his career.

Although Ronaldo himself has not publicly acknowledged his involvement in the film, he has long expressed an interest in film and entertainment outside of his sports career.

In April this year, he launched independent film studio UR*MARV with British director Matthew Vaughan, marking the footballer’s first foray into film.

Current state of the Fast franchise

Ronaldo’s potential casting comes as the Fast and Furious franchise accelerates towards its final major film, Fast X: Part 2, which is widely reported to be currently scheduled for release in April 2027.

Diesel has previously stated that the project is the culmination of more than two decades of storytelling and family-friendly action, but public communication from the studio has remained sparse, with much of the plot and casting left to be teased by Diesel himself.

In the same thread of social media updates, Diesel hints at some creative goals for the finale, including a return to Los Angeles, a new emphasis on street racing and car culture, and even a narrative reunion between Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Connor, played by the late Paul Walker.

The latter point carries particular emotional weight for longtime fans of the series. After Walker’s tragic death in 2013, O’Connor’s story ends with a heartfelt send-off in Fast & Furious 7.

Despite the excitement around these elements, producers and Universal have not confirmed other major aspects of Fast X: Part 2, including the fate of other franchise regulars such as Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Jason Momoa, Jordana Brewster, and Michelle Rodriguez, although many are widely expected to return.
