THis return to the Spotify Camp Nou was a great joy for Barcelona, but it didn’t last long. Labor inspections revealed further problems in its construction. Recently, 79 Turkish workers were found to be in unusual conditions, as Trebor was able to prove through its inspectors.

This is a very serious violation of immigration law by Extreme Works, one of the many subcontractors working on the reconstruction of the Blaugrana Stadium. According to El Periodico newspaper, an inspection carried out by Trebor found that 79 workers from Turkey had been working for months without proper work permits, resulting in a fine of 1.09 million euros for the subcontractor.

The company decided to terminate all employees following an investigation that began on September 25 at the request of the CCOO. All were sent back to Türkiye, although not all returned. This is not the first time that workers from other countries have been found carrying out work without contracts or permits. These irregularities have already resulted in a €3 million fine and 200 sanctions proceedings.

It all started with the workers wanting to return to Turkey to visit their loved ones. That’s when they realized they were working without proper permits. They were not employed before going to Barcelona to do the job, did not notify the labor authorities of the transfer, and did not comply with a number of other guarantees. Treball was able to demonstrate this, demonstrating that Extreme Works provided welders, electricians, and safety technicians to the site, among other things, during unusual circumstances.

“We were deceived. When they brought us here, they said everything was arranged and everything was legal, but in reality it was not,” one of the workers explained to the media. “If I knew, I wouldn’t have come.” Many went to CCOO to normalize their situation, only to find out by the subcontractor, who decided to fire them, saying the job was done. It remains to be seen how their dissatisfaction will develop in a project that continues to be a headache for Barcelona.
